The project [ For Drifting Seas ] is an exploration of “The South Manna Sea”, an imaginary body of water near the Taiwan Strait. It uses sound as fictional world building for an area of water that is constantly flowing and connected to all its surrounding islands. Through sound composition, Kai-Luen is exploring water and islands as a metaphor for the constant changes in the everyday. How the sea moves is like the biological functioning of the body, never in a static state, always active, moving, changing even when it appears to be still. It is the ability to meet these changes that characterizes the individuals relations to the environment around it. These compositions are sonic stories for this imagined area of the “South Manna Sea.”

Kai-Luen, who is a Los Angeles based musician and sound artist, brings a new concept album which aggregates years of exploration, cognition, and imagination of the world into sound waves, showing the fluidity of life itself, and constantly adjusting his perspective of self-observation between changes and invariance. This record serves as a document of these moments and changes in the form of sonic stories.

The presentation of these stories is divided into two chapters:

The digital version EP contains 7 tracks, which is a general sonic overview, a mini sound world of this area. It attempts to find a sense of belonging and ground amidst the constant drift and flow. It examines the individual in relation to the ground, the sky, the pulse of the heartbeat and ocean, the stars, the drift of the clouds, the concepts of home, and ultimately the ability to begin again in each moment.

The cassette version contains 60 minutes sound materials, which is a longer sound journey into the colors and details of the South Manna Sea. It looks closer at the body and human voice as a vessel for carrying imagined memories.

《For Drifting Seas》是对“The South Manna Sea”概念的探索 —— 位于台湾海峡附近的一个虚构水域，以声音构建的这片水系，它不断流动并与周围的各个岛屿产生关联。在这个虚构的故事中，Kai Luen 通过声音创作来探索“水”和“岛屿”，以隐喻日常生活中的不断变化：海洋的运动就像身体的机能一样，永远不会处于静止状态，总是活跃的、流动的、变化的，即使它看起来是相对静止的，正是应对这种变化的能力，决定了个人与周遭环境的关系。
